High Arsenic Levels: Beverage Firm Begins Recall Of Apple Juice From 25 States

A beverage firm has begun a recall of a premium brand of juice being sold in 25 states because of unsafe arsenic levels.
The Great Value Apple juice sold by Walmart is manufactured by Refresco Beverages US Inc.
Packed in 8-ounce sizes, and 6-pack plastic bottles, the order for its recall has been issued by the Food and Drug Administration, according to information on its website.
The regulatory organisation said the recalled products were sold in states on the East Coast and in the southern United States.
it was also being sold in the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

According to FDA, arsenic levels of the products, are about 13 parts per billion (ppb), slightly above the 10 ppb deemed safe to consume by the FDA.
The agency added that the product may cause adverse but medically reversible health consequences.
“The health and safety of our customers is always a top priority,” Walmart spokesperson Molly Blakeman said in a statement.
“We have removed this product from our impacted stores and are working with the supplier to investigate”.
An NBC report mentions Refresco as acknowledging shipments of its apple juice allegedly containing inorganic arsenic levels “slightly above” the FDA’s guidance., and that as a result they were being voluntarily recalled.
“The safety of consumers and the satisfaction of our customers are our top priorities,” the company said.
“We are working diligently to address the situation.”
