When political watchers think that the face-off between Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki and National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Adams Oshiomhole is heading to a resolution, another upheaval seems to erupt.

The current is the resignation of the Chief of Staff to Governor, Mr. Taiwo Akerele, with political watchers wondering how much of that was influenced by the in-house fight.

It is a reality that when two elephants fight, the grass seems to suffer and with the position of the two men in Edo politics, and feeling of political allegiance, real or imagined is likely to create problem.

There are already indications, The Eagle understands, that the resignation has everything to do with the lingering crisis between the Governor and the APC National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

“My decision to exit the government is based on administrative and governance grounds.

“I am solid with His excellency Mr. Godwin Obaseki in his quest to transform Edo state. His mission and vision resonate with mine.

“This is all I have to say, I will like to be given the opportunity to go private as I part ways administratively with the government based on principles.

“I thank his Excellency for the opportunity given to me to serve in this capacity and also thanks to His Royal Majesty, Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II for his immense leadership and support during the period I served in this capacity. May his reign be long and peaceful. Amen”, Taiwo prayed in his letter of resignation.

The Eagle recalls Akerele telling journalists recently moves between godfather and his political son at ending their political rift.

This was during his 44th birthday in Benin, although he added it was too early to reveal how far deliberations had gone.

“When the time comes, we will invite you just like this and address you.”, he had told journalists.

“Oshiomhole and Obaseki are very close; nobody should be deceived even as we speak. But of course, the issue they have is political and it is resolvable.

“The difference they have is political disagreement and it is resolvable; some factors came in and heightened the tension, otherwise this is a very minor thing. Remember, we were in Iyamoh during the Sallah celebration, that was in the middle of the crisis, we were there and we even blamed the media for the whole thing.”

It will soon emerge , the other undercurrents that may have led to Taiwo’s exit from the government of which he was a key handle.
