3-Day Weather Forecasts: Nimet Warns People With Asthmatic Conditions

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has released its three-day weather forecasts, specifically warning people with asthmatic conditions and other respiratory issues.

Such people, NiMet has warned should be cautious under the imminent weather, which it says would be characterized by a mix of dust haze, isolated thunderstorms, and sunny skies.

These would be for three days, Monday to Wednesday.

NiMet’s outlook mentioned Abuja, parts of Kebbi and Kano States in the northern region among those that would experience moderate dust haze on Monday, with horizontal visibility between 2km and 5km. it is slight departure for the rest of the northern states however, as they are expected to have sunny and hazy conditions throughout the day.

“For the central region, moderate dust haze with horizontal visibility of 2km to 5km is anticipated over parts of the Federal Capital Territory and Niger states, while the rest of the states in the region should be under sunny and hazy skies throughout the forecast period,” the agency said.

Sunny skies with scattered clouds alongside afternoon and evening thunderstorms with light rains are expected in the southern region, over Bayelsa, Lagos, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States.

The weather forecasts for parts of Kano and Kebbi states is that it would be characterized by light dust haze, on the one hand, and sunny and hazy weather for the remaining northern states.

In addition to sunny and hazy weather, the central region – Plateau will have a chance of isolated thundery activity, the weather forecasts foretells.

IT also foresees sunny conditions with occasional thunderstorms in the southern states over Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom.

By Wednesday, sunny and hazy skies will prevail over the north and central regions, while the south will have sunny skies with scattered clouds and possible afternoon or evening thunderstorms across Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, Delta, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States.

NiMet warned that suspended dust particles and rainfall could affect visibility and health. “People with asthmatic conditions and other respiratory issues should be cautious under the prevailing weather conditions,” the agency advised.
