In the United Kingdom, UK news update today, it is a mixed bag: While the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is upbeat with activities towards its 40^th anniversary celebration, disruptions in train services continue, with attendant discomforts on all sides.

BBC At 40: Diana Moran, Debbie Rix Return To Thrill Viewers

It is obviously refreshing time for long-standing viewers of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) which begins its 40^th anniversary celebration in weeks.

The globally renowned media brand is lining up a number of pleasant programmes, including bringing back faces, albeit voices, that helped make it the preferred station in times past.

These include fitness expert, Diana Moran who also anchored on the station, as well as Debbie Rix, both or who are expected to take the viewers down memory and, a report in the BBC indicates.

The duo would be doing so on the programme BBC’s morning news programme, but known in those days as Breakfast time.

According to a report in the Evening Standard:, “On January 17, current presenters Jon Kay and Sally Nugent will be on the BBC Breakfast sofa for an anniversary edition of the show, including a special half-hour when it will be rebranded to the original programme – Breakfast Time, and the team will also bring back the original and nostalgic vintage clock”.

Presenter Kay would be on at 6.30am, recalling all that went into birthing a bespoke film, 6:30am being the time belt the first edition of the show was launched.

More Disruptions In Railway Services In The UK Feared

Also in our UK news update today, railway services users in the United Kingdom may have to brace for more disruption in train services.

At a time many are expecting a harmonious resolution of the faceoff between the authorities and train drivers, an umbrella union for the drivers have come out to describe as tokenism, a 2, 000 Pounds pay rise being offered them.

The general secretary of Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen (ASLEF) Mick Whelan, speaking on the 2, 000 Pounds pay rise promise gave indication of a new strike by Thursday, denying being made such an offer thus far by any government representative.

A report in the Guardian of London credits Whelan as saying that “Inflation was running this year at 14%, we’ve had no pay rise for the previous two years, and they want industry reform for 3% – I don’t think that will fly with my members.”

This is in the midst of fresh threats from thousands of unionised nurses in hospitals in New York City giving indication of a fresh strike following the expiration of their current contracts. Summarily, they want better caregiver-to-patient ratios.
