Youths Plan Protest For Others Who Can’t Afford Food At Xmas:

You must have seen all the several bags of rice, chicken and hampers making the rounds or going down the tummy in celebration of Xmas.

The reality however, is that there millions around the neigbourhood who do not stand the least chance of celebrating like others.

It is not that they are not interested; do not know how to crack the bones of a chicken or guzzle all the sumptuous delicacies that Christmas and New Year afford; it is simply because they do not have the financial wherewithal to celebrate with others.

And there is a group of people who do not feel cool with this. They are youth and are resolved to fighting for others who can’t afford food at Xmas.

Patriotic Front Youth, that is the youth vanguard of the Patriotic Front Party in Zambia, they are solidarising underprivileged Zambians, giving notice of intention to protest in the Copperbelt region.

It is on behalf of those people who are unable to put food on the table at the Yuletide.

A Member of Parliament (MP) of Mpika constituency, Honourable Robert Kapyanga disclosed the intention of the youths to journlaists.

According to him, the youths are already contacting the party leadership on their intentions, and are also putting the police on notice.

“Let me also take this opportunity to announce to the nation that we as Patriotic Front Youths are consulting the acting President and the acting Secretary General of our party and the lawyers regarding our intention to hold protests on the Copperbelt in solidarity with the suffering masses on the Copperbelt,” Honourable Robert Kapyanga said addressing the press.

“And that will mark our solidarity for all Zambian people that are unable to put food on their table despite the promise that they were told by this government that things would be cheap”, the Zambian Observer quotes the MP as saying.

“We have been expecting that the Zambian people will start buying a bag of mealie meal at K50, a liter of petrol at K12, a bag of fertilizer at K250 but all that cannot be seen and we can’t just continue waiting,” he said.

Asserting that the people were no longer interested in the blame game of the current New Dawn government, he said the government should as a matter of fact apologise to the Zambian people for lies that had brought no respite ever since.

“He (President Hakainde Hichilema) promised Zambians an investment of US$15 billion but he only managed to negotiate for US$150 million investment. That is just 1%… yet in 2021 we were told that he would actually actualise the US$25 billion investment and he was elected on that promise”, he said.

The Eagle reports that it is not only in Zambia that there are others who can’t afford food at Xmas. The concept of poverty or inability to afford decent meals is also real in Nigeria.  The national poverty eradication programme or programmes over time have done little or nothing to reduce the rank of underprivileged in the country
