Youths movement condemns choice of Omo Agege as Dep. Senate President
The All Nigerian Youths Reoriented Movement has risen in strong condemnation of the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s endorsement/support of Senator Obarisi Ovie Omo Agege as Senate Deputy President.
The movement said the move was a pure celebration of impunity.
It recalled the incident in April last year, when the man led a group of other unidentified individuals to snatch the upper chambers symbol of authority, only to return later to be part of the proceedings.
Describing the action as unacceptable in a democratic environment, the movement said it had denied Omo Agege any claim to a reputable office in the land, much less, the office of Senate Deputy President.
Olufemi Ajadi, chairman, and Comrade Olugbenga Awoeye who signed the release added that APC’s stance in supporting Omo Agege was a dirty slap on democracy
It said that implication was that the ruling party was in support of acts of impunity, describing impunity as the bane of democracy in the country.
The group said all genuine democrats must therefore stand against this dishonourable act which must be curbed to have a meaningful future we all hope for in this country.
It also urged honourable and right-thinking people in the senate and in the country to come together in defence of the countty’s democracy which is under threat since inception of GMB as President of Nigeria.
The group claimed that making Omo Agege Deputy Senate President was to compensate him for his barbaric action0f disrupting the peace of the Nation by stealing the mace in a failed attempt at illegally removing the then Senate President, Bukola Saraki.
It suggested instead, that Omo Agege be brought to justice and penalised rather than being celebrated and promoted as deputy senate president.
This, it said should serve as deterrent to others, and a strong morale for the youths of the nation.
