Youth leader Cancels Annual Colloquium Over COVID-19

The yearly holding of a coloquiem in celebration of the Leader of the All Nigerian Youths Reoriented Initiative, Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, has been cancelled.

A release which was made available to our reporter said the reason could not be different from the ravaging COVID-19 which has foisted social distancing.

The release quoted Ajadi as regretting the decision but added that it was in the best interest of all, until the pandemic had been contained.

He however used the opportunity to advice that all good gestures intended for the event by well-wishers be channeled to humanitarian gestures.

Appreciating God for the grace to see another year, he said it called for sober reflecting in view of the mood of the times globally.

“In the spirit of caring for one another during this unprecedented moment, we must all be willing to do what ordinarily we would not do.

“This is particularly true when it comes to acts of social distancing and other precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.”

He added that it is for the reason of safeguarding public health, he cancelled the annual colloquium held on his birthday at which ideas and solutions are proffered to emerging national issues.

“ In adherence to the instructions given by government there will be no public gathering in celebration of my birthday.

“I however Indulge all well-wishers to donate whatever gifts intended for him to their neighbours, or to whomever they know who may be in need at this difficult moment in their various communities”.

The leader noted that he usually celebrate his birthdays with gatherings of family and friends where people mingled in proximity, however, the precarious situation of things have called for a change.

“Given the challenge we now face, this is not the time for any form of public celebration or gathering to mark anyone’s birthday. Such a celebration would be inconsistent with the measures we must take to protect our loved ones and the public at large,” he said.
