‘You People Should Stop Dashing Across The Expressway’; such is some leaders in the Onipetesi community, along Oshodi Abeokuta express way, Mangoro area of Lagos.

Those who spoke during their monthly meeting were former Chairmen of Onipetesi Community Complex, Chief Goldie Samuel, Mr. Stanley Eze as well as Mr. Williams Agu.

Speaking first, Chief Goldie advised them instead to make use of the pedestrian bridges in the area.

He said a lot of souls had been lost on the expressway more specially between mangoro and cement areas due to negligence and disobedience.

According to him, “ It is quite unfortunate that people don’t use pedestrian bridges. Many of our members here have fallen victims.

I am using this opportunity to plead to you on behalf of Lagos State government to use the bridge anytime. It doesn’t matter where you are heading to; safety first”, he added.

Mr Eze however lamented that the residents of Mangoro didn’t find the use of bridges necessary hence both their young and old resort to crossing the highway with all the risks..

Mr Agu while admonishing others against the practice, said he had once been a victim of dashing across the road.

He said though the pedestrian bridge had not come then, but he knew how much it cost him, and the number of months he spent in hospital.

“Now that we have an alternative It is necessary, we use it to save lives”, he said.

 All the speakers described as high, the rate of accidents occurring on that stretch of the expressway, saying it should be halted.

The Eagle reports that the haste by Lagosians to get to their destinations early usually force them to take extreme options of which dashing across the express is one.

Some of the accidents have been known to take place right below foot bridges, with many people considering the few minutes it would take them to climb such pedestrian bridges a luxury.
