‘You People Should Stop Calling Us Fulani Herdsmen’
There is a plea on the lips of Fulani socio-cultural group, “Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, and it is that Nigerians stop using the phrase “Fulani Herdsmen Attack” to identify them.
The group made its submissions known through a statement signed by the chairman of its Bauchi state chapter, Alhaji Hussaini Mohammed.
” We are proud to say the Fulanis have produced notable leaders in Nigeria who made significant impact” , the group said, adding that Fulani herdsmen as tag was only being used to denigrate such lofty contributions.
Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore added in the statement that it was also to portray the entire Fulani stock as criminals, adding that branding an ethnic stock as such was unjustifiable and sentimental
The group also argued that it was making significant contributions to the nation’s economic development, through such avenues as rearing and supply of animals, meat and milk for the general wellbeing of Nigerians and should not be denigrated.
It said beyond that, that it was also making huge contributions to national development through tax payment and the supply of milk and meat for consumption by the generality of Nigerians
Arguing that crime was not limited to a particular tribe, Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore expressed dissatisfaction with the practice that when other tribes committed offences, it was not tagged with their ethnic nationalities, whereas that was the case when offences concerned people of Fulani origin.
