Wolves Targeting Chelsea’s Borja Loan Move

Chelsea striker Armando Broja, whose future at Stamford Bridge is unclear, is reportedly being considered for a loan move by Wolves.

Broja has largely been second choice behind Nicolas Jackson in Chelsea’s attack this season, with the 22-year-old starting just seven games so far – albeit he missed the start of the season with a cruciate ligament tear. With the Blues linked with Napoli forward Victor Osimhen and Brighton’s Evan Ferguson, Broja may have a decision to make over his future if another attacker is recruited and now Wolves have reportedly stepped in, according to the Guardians.

Broja has always been highly regarded by Chelsea but injury and a modest goal return have not helped his cause at Stamford Bridge. While he still has four years left on his current contract, the Blues are having to sell some of their academy players to comply with profit and sustainability rules and the Albanian international could be part of that trend. Chelsea needs a clinical striker and Broja so far has not proven to be that.

In 2020–21, Broja scored 11 goals while on loan at Vitesse in the Netherlands. The next season, he scored nine goals while playing for Southampton. However, in 36 Chelsea games played thus far, he has only managed three goals.

Next Tuesday, when Chelsea plays Middlesbrough in their Carabao Cup semifinal second leg, Broja and the blues still has a chance to turn things around and overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit. Then, on January 26, they play Aston Villa in the FA Cup’s round of sixteen. Five days later, they travel to Liverpool for a Premier League match.
