Winter Weather Warnings In 6 States, 14 Inches Of Snow Expected

The National Weather Service (NWS) has released winter weather warnings for today, indicating the possibility of up to 14 inches of snow in some parts of the country.

The winter weather warnings is all important posing direct and indirect impacts on life and living. According to reports, winter storms can cause power outages, while snow can interfere with travel and create dangerous driving conditions.

Freezing temperatures can also pose health risks, particularly for vulnerable groups such as young children and older adults, the report indicates

Places where the NWS issued winter storm warnings include Alaska, Wyoming, and Montana, while winter weather advisories were issued for Michigan, New York, and North Carolina.

Southeast Montana and northeast Wyoming, western Michigan, northwestern New York, and eastern North Carolina are other areas included, even as the exact level of snowfall expected varied from state to state.

“A storm will pass through the southwestern U.S. this weekend with widespread rain and mountain snow”, it said in a weather warning report accessed on its website, adding

“Rainfall will be mostly beneficial but poses a risk for dangerous debris flows over recent burn scars. A significant winter storm will impact Alaska through the weekend with heavy snow across western Alaska and heavy rainfall across Southcentral with strong winds and marine/coastal impacts”

Continuing the winter weather warnings, the NWS said that even as elevated fire weather conditions continue in southern California, that precipitation was expected to bring relief Saturday into Sunday…

“A deep upper level low will drop into the western U.S. today, pushing a surface frontal system south across the region. The system is forecast to move across the Northwest and northern/central Rockies today and move into the Four Corners region and Southwest this weekend.

“Widespread light to moderate snow is expected across the Intermountain West, and heavy snow may be possible in some of the higher elevations.

“The upper low will become nearly stationary over the Southwest this weekend, causing a low pressure system to spin up along the California coast that will likely bring beneficial precipitation to southern California, which has been suffering from elevated wildfire conditions over the past few weeks. Dry

conditions and elevated wildfire conditions will persist before precipitation arrives on Saturday”, the agency added
