Why Police Clashed With Crystal Palace Fans Before Arsenal Showdown 

Prior to Saturday’s Premier League matchup between Arsenal and Crystal Palace at the Emirates, there were altercations between fans and police.

The away fans bizarrely had a drum confiscated ahead of Saturday’s Premier League game in north London. There were some ugly scenes before kick-off as visiting supporters clashed with police and officers in high-vis jackets were seen entering the away end and taking away a drum.

The Palace fans’ flare seemed to be the catalyst for the police’s decision to intervene. Following a confrontation in the away end, the authorities removed the drum. Arsenal’s matchday stadium regulations do state that musical instruments are not permitted, despite the fact that Eagles supporters are frequently spotted beating a drum.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta told TNT Sports his team were raring to go ahead of kick-off: “We recharged, re-energised and have been very clear with each other what to expect, and then attack the second half of the season.”

Tuesday’s Premier League games see Crystal Palace play Sheffield United, while Arsenal travels to Nottingham Forest before hosting Liverpool.
