Why Jose Mourinho Has Been Hit With €1.5m Fine In Spain

Portuguese boss Jose Mourinho has been hit with a huge tax bill by Spanish authorities for a period when he was Real Madrid manager.

Mourinho has an open case against him for tax evasion from 2010 to 2012, according to the Spanish publication Relevo, which he has subsequently contested. However, the appeal has now been denied, and he will have to pay €1.5 million (£1.28 million/$1.61 million) in taxes overall.

Mourinho avoided charges for 2010 but was deemed to have not paid the correct amount of tax in the following two years, after claiming Real Madrid had paid the fees of agent Jorge Mendes – rather than himself.

The Portuguese coach will now settle his overdue tax payment while he continues to consider any open positions that he might be able to take on soon. There may be openings at Barcelona, United, and Bayern Munich in the upcoming months.
