Why I Yelled At Maguire During Man Utd’s Friendly – Onana 

Andre Onana has given an explanation for why he yelled at Harry Maguire during the friendly match between Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund that was caught on camera.

The international goalkeeper from Cameroon, who completed a £48 million ($62 million) deal to Old Trafford during the summer transfer window, lost no time in speaking out as a new defensive unit.

During a 3-2 loss to Dortmund, Onana was seen yelling at Maguire because the Red Devils’ defence line was allowing too many easy opportunities. Even though others in front of him have been members of the club for much longer than he has, the 27-year-old doesn’t apologise for getting on their case.

According to Onana, who spoke to MUTV, “I demand a lot of my team-mates because they trust in me and demand a lot of me. They frequently play balls back to me, so I have to inspire trust in them, and I want my players to do the same for me. Because they are excellent players, I demand a lot from them and will continue to demand a lot from them. 

“It is now a great privilege for me to play with these defenders. They are accomplishing tremendous things with Harry and [Lisandro] Martinez. They are crucial contributors to the team. Being a part of this team makes me very pleased, and playing with them is awesome.”

Onana continued, “I try to talk to them a lot because I know he’s a good player, he’s one of the captains of the team. ” 

Bruno Fernandes will take over Maguire’s responsibilities as captain for the 2023–2024 season. Given how amazing a guy he is, how big that is, and how talented with the ball he is, I would expect a lot from him. He and I have a terrific relationship. I talked to him since both he and I need to be ready because I have a lot of expectations of everyone when I’m in the goal. I’ll start with myself since I think mistakes will be made and we’re all in this together. 

Onana has made two appearances for United during their preseason tour of the United States, losing to Real Madrid and Dortmund. The challenge is to fully integrate into the Red Devils lineup by the time they play Wolves on August 14 in the 2023–24 Premier League season opener.
