Why I Enjoy Guadriola’s Rants – Haaland

Erling Haaland stated that he “likes it” when Pep Guardiola yells at him and provided an explanation for why he likes his manager’s outbursts.

During a Premier League match against Burnley earlier this season, the Spanish manager publically chastised Haaland as the halftime horn sounded. The manager and star striker were followed by the cameras as they made their way to the tunnel, and the manager could be seen arguing with him.

Haaland lifted the lid on Guardiola’s approach after he won the UEFA Men’s Player of the Year award on Thursday after a record-breaking season that saw him score 52 goals.

When quizzed about who was scarier between Guardiola and his father Alf-Inge Haaland the striker said: “Good question, sometimes Pep is a bit scary, I have to say. But my father can also be a bit scary. 

“But anyways this is something I like, I like it when Pep shouts at me because he tries to get something in my brain that he doesn’t think I have. So I like it, I’m not complaining at all, he just wants to make me a better footballer so I’m not complaining at all.”

Guardiola, who won the UEFA Men’s Coach of the Year award, is renowned for being energetic on the sidelines and perhaps going too far in his efforts to correct the mistakes in his squad and players. 

Nevertheless, his strategies have been successful over time, and he can now take pride in having achieved a unique football accomplishment by winning the treble twice in his career with two different sides, Barcelona and Manchester City.
