Why Emirates Airlines Suspend Flights To Nigeria

By Tolulope Oke

Emirates Airlines has announced the suspension of all its flights to and from Nigeria effective from the 1st of  September.

Emirates said in a statement that it had explored every option to address its ongoing issues with remitting money from Nigeria and had made significant efforts to start a conversation with the appropriate authorities in hopes of prompting their assistance in coming up with a workable solution. Regrettably, though, there had been no progress.

The statement reads: “Therefore, Emirates has taken the difficult decision to suspend all flights to and from Nigeria, effective 1 September 2022, to limit further losses and impact on our operational costs that continue to accumulate in the market.

“We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused to our customers, however the circumstances are beyond our control at this stage. We will be working to help impacted customers make alternative travel arrangements wherever possible.”

The airline also hinted that it would reconsider its choice if there were any positive developments regarding Emirates’ blocked money in Nigeria in the upcoming days.

Moreso, Emirates stressed their commitment to operations that offer much-needed connectivity for Nigerian travelers, offering access to commerce and tourism possibilities to Dubai, as well as to our broader network of over 130 destinations.
