Why Ebonyi Commissioners, SAs Are Now Under Pressure

The reason has emerged why Commissioners and Special Assistants in the cabinet of Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State are now under pressure.

They have just realised that it is no longer business as usual, after two of their colleagues were suspended from duty.

Those affected are the Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Hon. Emmanuel Uguru and his Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Education, Dr Obianuju Alo.

They are now on a one-month working suspension for negligence and dereliction of duty.

Coming close to resumption of a New Year, the action has sent strong signals among members of his cabinet, with a source telling The Eagle Correspondent that, “it is now like fire on the mountain, and every body is running.

“Some had rumoured that a particular commissioner fond of rash behaviours in dealign with the public should even have been one of those cautioned”.

The source did not however mention the name of the person talked about, but coming barely a few hours after the governor suspended his Principal secretary, Emmanuel Obasi over the same negligence and dereliction of duty, there are strong feelings that those who do not sit up would outrightly be replaced.

The governor gave the latest order via a statement signed by Secretary to the State Government and coordinating Commissioner, Dr Kenneth Ugbala on Friday.

This suspension comes barely a few hours after the governor suspended his Principal secretary, Emmanuel Obasi over the same negligence and dereliction of duty.

The statement reads, “Following the directive of His Excellency, the Governor of Ebonyi State Engr. David Nweze Umahi, FNSE, FNATE, the Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Chief Emmanuel Uguru and SSA to Governor on Education, Dr Obianuju Alo are hereby directed to proceed on one-month working suspension, with immediate effect.
