Who Killed Daniel Eheri In Luxemburg Police Custody?

Who is responsible for the death of a Nigerian national, Daniel Eheri, in far-away Luxembourg while under the custody of the country’s police?

This is the million-dollar question the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) is posing to the concerned authorities.

The commission is calling for a thorough investigation into how Daniel Eheri, died in the custody of the Luxembourg Police, Grand-Ducale.

In a press statement signed by the

Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, on Wednesday, the Commission said it would work with the Nigerian Embassy in Belgium towards uncovering the riddle.

Stating this through a statement he said a formal petition had been sent to the Federal Government of Nigeria, calling for urgent action regarding what they described as the extrajudicial killing of Daniel Eheri.

With “Case of an Extrajudicial Killing of a Nigerian by the Police Authority of Luxembourg” as title, the petition was addressed to the NiDCOM Chairman, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, and signed by the National Coordinator of the Nigerian Community in Luxembourg, Mr. Sunday Adekolu.

According to the petition, “The late Eheri Daniel was a Nigerian with an untainted record in Luxembourg and a residence permit holder.

“The ambassador’s efforts were rebuffed, as there had been no official response to his letters on the matter.

“We, the Nigerian Community in Luxembourg, do hereby seek your urgent assistance on the matter, to put records in right perspectives, to persuade the Luxembourg Police Grand-Ducale into conducting autopsy on the remains of Eheri Daniel, to sensitise the Luxembourg Police on matters that can be done to prevent a re-occurrence of such a dastardly act of inhumanity against our people here in Luxembourg in the future,” the petition added.

Already, the Chairman of NiDCOM, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, had has described Eheri’s death in police custody as deeply troubling.

“The Commission will work with the Nigerian Embassy in that country to demand for thorough investigation,” she said.
