Who Can Heal The Pains Of This Wounded Heart?
Who can heal the pains of a wounded heart, the heart of a woman who has lost something that can never be replaced?
You have one just right before your eyes, a woman who has refused to be consoled, because she has lost something so dear, something so close.
She is a wounded heart because she has just lost something that can never be replaced.
Indeed, who can heal the sorrows of a woman who had just lost her husband, and in a most callous manner?
It is the simple reason that she has refused to get up, the reason she is refusing to let go off the coffin now procured to convey the body of her husband to the underworld, far from where she would never set eyes on him again.
The husband, Simon Warui, has just died, right inside a police station, the Mombasa police station in Kenya, in very controversial circumstances.
The news, the circumstance and the implication have just left her shattered, such that during the obsequies on September 26, Simon Warui’s widow refused to let go his coffin.
Who can accurately interpret what was going on in her mind, the fact that she would never set eyes on the man she had shared her life with all these while.
Add to this, the fact that the story of Warui’s death itself is woven in controversy.
First, he was reported missing in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi, making the family run helter skelter in search of his whereabouts.
Next was that he was found detained by the police in Mombasa, according to the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), and then the worst news of all: he is dead. What happened and in what circumstances.

Here is the police account:
- There was a loud bang while Warui was in the toilet
- Upon getting there, Warui was found with blood oozing from his nose
- He was rushed to the hospital but upon getting there, Warui had been pronounced dead.
But then, a post-mortem examination suggests he may have fallen from a height, but which height and under what circumstance? Only investigations – when completed – would be able to supply answers to the above riddles.
This is the dilemma and frustration of Warui’s wife, the wounded heart. Emotions got the better of her at the ancestral home of the Waruis in Mukurwe-ini in Nyeri County. Why not?
The interment over, mourners would begin filing home to their loved ones, but Warui’s widow would be left to weather the storms of her new reality. Who wouldn’t break down? Who would not refuse to let go the coffin?
Even as it had taken the intervention of mourners, according to a TNX report, to momentarily calm her down , but as to how long this will last, is certainly not a far-fetched answer.
