While The World Cup Is going On In Qatar….

World Cup – “They don start?”,”which World cup ” , “where is it happening” . These are some of the reactions from random people even the global soccer fiesta, the world Cup holds.
Sport is one sector that unites every tribe, race and people with different religious beliefs. It ignites the mood of every person who has interest in it and has always been one of the symbols of national and international unity.
Football is one of the sports that has global interest. One can easily admit that football is the king of sports. In every hundred persons, seventy have interest in football, directly or indirectly.
Also, in every family, there must be a football lover. This is the level of influence the sport industry has in the societies, around the world.
The Federation International Football Association (FIFA)-organised World cup is onoging in Qatar. The World football tournament has been in existence since 1930 when it had its inaugural tournament. Since then, it has been taking place every four years except in 1942 and 1946 because of the Second World War. This year’s tournament is holding from November 20 to December 18, 2022 .

Africans are not left behind in the competition as five countries of Africa qualified for the tournament. They are Ghana, Senegal, Morocco, Cameroon and Tunisia. These National teams are competing with the other twenty seven teams which make up thirty two teams playing in the tournament this year.
However, not many Nigerians are aware of the developments as regards the FIFA World cup. Those who are aware are either not interested or have other things that require more attention.T he situation could have been different if Nigeria had qualified for the tournament but notwithstanding, there are still sports lovers who has keen interest in the tournament.
Do they know it’s the world cup? Of course, many do not know. On the streets and markets ,people are going on with their daily activities, no much excitement and reactions from people as regards the match compared to what is obtainable in other parts of the Worlds, more especially the ‘whites’. There is a kind of suspense from most countries who are participating in the match.
As we all know, majority of Nigerians are not so obsessed with the picnic and merrymaking that comes from football, even in some National and International football competition that have taken place in the country so far, the stadium is always scanty.
Not many people will like to show up because of battle of survival here in Nigeria. Most people will consider it a waste of time to sit in a stadium to watch football match than engaging in something that brings food to the table.

Meanwhile, this year’s World cup tournament is coming at a crucial time in Nigeria, a time Nigerians are getting ready to elect new leaders.

Campaigns are already going on, economic recession which has made many people poorer, insecurity in the land and other things that distracts the attention of Nigerians on daily basis which is enough to drive people away from the FIFA World cup competition.
