Deco has suggested Brighton loanee Ansu Fati could have a future at Barcelona despite being frozen out last season.

Despite scoring ten goals or more for the Blaugrana in the previous season, Fati was allowed to depart after Xavi frozen him out. Manchester United expressed interest in a permanent deal, but Barcelona moved the young player on loan to Brighton.

In an interview with RAC1, Barca sporting director Deco said that even if the winger was moved on loan, he might have a future in Catalunya: “Of course Ansu Fati can return here, he’s on loan to Brighton. He’s young, he’s happy now. I think Brighton was good choice to play regular football, we’re following his progress. It’s up to his performances. But Ansu could return to Barca, for sure.”

During the course of the summer, several clubs were rumoured to be interested in Fati. According to reports, Man Utd was in the running for the Barca winger, while Chelsea and Spurs had also reportedly contacted him about a long-term deal. Following his exit, the Blaugrana brought in Joao Felix on loan, who looks to be a long-term replacement headed to Catalunya.

After missing out on Luis de le Fuente’s most recent Spain squad, Fati will return to action for Brighton following the international break, and projects to be in contention to play when the Seagulls travel to Nottingham Forest.
