‘What We’ll Do ToThe Rivers Policeman Who Killed His Colleague’

by Cami Ezenwa

The police in Rivers State has said what will happen to a police officer who shot and killed a policewoman trying to intervene on behalf of street traders.

Mr Joseph Mukan, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, who described the tragedy as a misuse of weapon by the policeman, added that the culpite was immediately arrested and subjected to orderly room trial.

But beyond these, the commissioner said he would immediately be arraigned once his orderly room trial is concluded.

“A policeman attached to the taskforce did the shooting.

“He was shooting anyhow and in the process killed another policewoman. The policewoman was hit by a stray bullet.

“As I am talking to you, the orderly room trial is ongoing. If we conclude it this night, we will arraign him tomorrow”, he said, reiterating that there was no justification for the killing.

We hear about actions that the authorities want to take because it involves a police killing police; what about the police man that killed a civilian in Anambra, the onee in Aba, Ohafia – no comment from the commissioner in those areas.

It so sad and actually a misuse of weapon. As a police officer who is to secure life and property of the citizens shooting any how at market place, is so terrible. Must they shoot before people can obey them? They should be careful of how they use power and weapon.

Most of the police officers need to be trained on how to use rifles because the case of this accidental discharge and stray bullets is getting worse everyday
