“Water, Water! Please, Call Dr Wale!”, Chaos In Senate As Ministerial Nominee Collapses

There was chaos on the floor of the Senate this morning, following the collapse of a ministerial nominee.

An alarmed Senate president, Godswill Akpabio went off shouting: “Water, water! Can you give him sugar and water? Can someone bring water and sugar? Please, call Dr Wale!” Akpabio exclaimed.

The ministerial nominee, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, collapsed while being screened Lawal had passed out during interrogation and it was obvious, that he was exhausted, but it was not clear whether this was as a result of the drilling or some other factors.

The entire chamber was alarmed with senators in desperate bid for help.

While some responded to Akpabio’s call for water and sugar, some others hurried towards him to help me up

“Water, water! Can you give him sugar and water? Can someone bring water and sugar? Please, call Dr Wale!” Akpabio, while also asking the cameramen to leave the chamber.

Abbas Lawal from Kaduna State was screened today alongside Jamila Bio Ibrahim from Kwara State and Mr Ayodele Olawande from Ondo State.

Lawal was the second nominee to be screened.

The Eagle reports that President Bola Tinubu had requested the Senate to confirm Balarabe Abbas Lawal, a replacement for Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.

Their nomination was announced in a communication forwarded to that effect and read on floor of the Senate by President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio.

The first 48 ministerial nominees were screened in August, after which 45 were confirmed, while three were withheld.

Stella Okotete from Delta State and Abubakar Danladi from Taraba State were the two ministerial nominees rejected by the Upper legislative chamber.
