Video: Historical Moment Olubadan & Yoruba Council Endorse Obi

Following a unanimous endorsement from the Afenifere Group a couple of months back, Labour Party’s Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, might have won over the Olubadan and the Yoruba Council on his side on the journey to Aso Rock.

Saturday, Peter Obi, made a historic visit to the  Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Olalekan Balogun, Alli-Okunmade II, to seek his aid in realizing his presidential ambition.

He was accompanied to the private palace of the Olubadan at Alarere in Ibadan by the governorship candidate of LP in Oyo State, Taofiq Akinwale, and members of Obi’s campaign organisation, including the Director-General of the campaign organisation, Dr Doyin Okupe, as we as Akin Osuntokun, Chief Sola Ebiseni, and Secretary-General, Afenifere, Chief Mrs Bola Doherty.

Speaking about the reason for his visit, Obi stated that the 2023 presidential election should not be decided by a person’s tribe, ethnicity, or religion, adding that all of these factors are part of an elite plot to keep the country in poverty.

Obi pledged that under his administration, the nation’s states will serve as the hubs of activity. He observed that the concept of hiding away in Abuja and being unaware of what occurs in the other states of the nation will soon be history. He bemoaned the fact that almost all of the federal government’s infrastructure in the states had crumbled, making progress and real growth nearly impossible.

In his response, the Olubadan, Oba Balogun, who spoke through the Otun Balogun of Ibadanland, Tajudeen Ajibola, placed the demand for the creation of Ibadan State before Obi, and his running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed.

Also, while praying for Obi, he noted that the “almighty God in his infinite mercies will allow you (Obi) to rule…” Adding that, “since the Olubadan says it’s going to be so, we the whole council are unanimous and say it’s going to be so…”
In his closing remarks, Obi noted he took heed of his wise counsel and requests while appreciating the Olubadan for his hospitality and audience.
