VAR Controversy: Alexander-Arnold Roast Maddison After Replay Jibe

Liverpool defender, Trent Alexander-Arnold roasted James Maddison to settle scores with his England teammate after ‘still asking for a replay’ jibe.

Luis Diaz’s goal that was incorrectly overturned by VAR has continued to stir up controversy. In a Premier League match, Tottenham defeated the Reds 2-1; however, if Diaz’s opening goal had stood, the outcome would have been different.

Manager of Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp, suggested a rematch as a result. The damage was already done, and as the pair met in the England camp, Maddison made fun of Alexander-Arnold for his manager’s strange request, even if the coach later claimed that his statements had been misconstrued by the media.

“Still asking for a replay!” the Spurs midfielder captioned an Instagram story.

However, Alexander-Arnold paid it back to him with the same coin as he brutally roasted Maddison during an interview with Channel 4.

When asked if they were actually discussing the VAR incident he replied: “Nah! No, he was asking me to teach him how to put a free-kick in the top corner. But, I told him, I’d just shown him the video when I scored at Leicester last year and they got relegated.”

Liverpool defeated the Foxes 3-0 on May 16 of this year, with Alexander-Arnold scoring the third goal following a brace from Curtis Jones in the first half. Leicester struggled to remain afloat after the loss, and after finishing in the 18th slot previous season, they were demoted to the Championship.

Friday night’s friendly match between the Three Lions and Australia might feature Maddison and Alexander-Arnold.
