UEFA Announces Squad Size Quota For Euro 2024 To 26 Players

The maximum squad size for Euro 2024  has increased from the initial allotment of 23 players to 26, UEFA confirmed.

The initial limit for Euro 2024 squads has been increased from 23 to 26 players, as revealed by UEFA on Friday. Both the 2022 World Cup and the delayed Euro 2020 tournament allowed teams to pick up to 26 players, as a result of potential COVID infections, but after managerial complaints, the governing body have expanded the numbers once again.

England manager Gareth Southgate confirmed that he had spoken with Ronald Koeman of the Netherlands that larger squad sizes will enable teams to more effectively withstand the possible effects of injuries sustained throughout the campaign.

Teams can choose to pick 23 players if they so like, but it is unlikely that any will do so. Squads for Euro 2024 must be submitted to UEFA by June 7. It makes room for unexpected selections; England, for instance, might now choose Jordan Henderson of Ajax or Eberechi Eze of Crystal Palace.

The European seasons have to end before the competition starts. Germany will play Scotland on June 14 to begin the campaign.
