Two Years After Bagging Death Sentence, Famous ‘husband killer’ Maryam Sanda …

It has been two years since the famous convicted husband killer, Mrs Maryam Sanda, was sentenced to death by a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory and upheld by the Court of Appeal in Abuja.

Reports obtained stated that Maryam stabbed her husband, a real estate developer, to death at their Abuja residence in 2017, was convicted and sentenced to death by hanging at the Abuja High Court on January 27, 2020, which was later upheld by the court of Appeal in December 2020.

The Eagle also gathered that the sentencing was carried out under the unanimous ruling of a three-judge panel of justices chaired by Justice Stephen Adah stating that there was no justification to overturn the decision of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, which authorized Maryam’s hanging.

It decided that Maryam’s 20 grounds for appeal against her conviction and punishment lacked substance and should be rejected.

Today, she has taken a final lap in the journey to either regain freedom or face the death penalty as she tenders her case with the Supreme court.

The Apex Court scheduled the appeal by the convict for determination before a 5-person panel of Justices, according to Daily Post.

In her appeal, Mrs. Sanda is pleading with the Supreme Court to nullify and overturn the findings and convictions made concurrently by the high court and the Court of Appeal.

She is asserting that the way her trial was handled and the death sentence she received constituted a miscarriage of justice.

She explicitly requests that the Supreme Court rule in her favor regarding the claims of unfair treatment she made against the FCT high court.

Her legal team is billed to be led by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, and former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Mr Joseph Bodunde Daudu.
