Trump Bans Citizens of 12 Countries From Entering US

The anti-immigration hammer of President Donald Trump has fallen on 12 countries; they are now banned from entering US.

Trump did so by signing a new proclamation citing national security concerns as reason for the ban which takes effect from June 9, 2025.

The 12 countries banned from entering the US are

1. Afghanistan
2. Myanmar
3. Chad
4. Congo
5. Equatorial Guinea
6. Eritrea
7. Haiti
8. Iran
9. Libya
10. Somalia
11. Sudan
12. Yemen

Trump also placed citizens of 7 other countries on partial restriction when it comes to entering the US.

The countries on partial restriction are as follows:

1. Burundi
2. Cuba
3. Laos
4. Sierra Leone
5. Togo
6. Turkmenistan
7. Venezuela

The measure which is aimed at stemming security threats, the president stated, however provides exemption for some categories of persons.

The exemptions cover athletes travelling for major sporting events, some Afghan nationals and dual nationals with citizenship in unaffected countries.

“We cannot have open migration from any country where we cannot safely and reliably vet and screen,” he said in a video message posted on X on Wednesday.

According to the White House, the countries facing the harshest restrictions were deemed to have a “large-scale presence of terrorists,” poor cooperation on visa-related security measures, and inadequate systems for verifying travelers’ identities.

The administration also cited issues such as poor record-keeping of criminal histories and high visa overstay rates as contributing factors, the report monitored from BBC stated.

It sees the latest ban as s follow-up to Trump’s broader immigration crackdown initiated at the beginning of his second term.
