Torotoro Community Condemns Ogun Govt Over Perennial Neglect

The Torotoro Community in the Ibafo area of Ogun State have criticised succeeding governments in the state for what it described as its perennial neglect in the development of their community.

The community made its position known following a crucial meeting held under the auspices of the Torotoro Unity 2 Community Development Association (CDA).

The chairman, Mr Marcus Ibitoye, listed certain development aspirations which he bemoaned had been lacking in the community for years, mentioning these to roads, pipe-borne water, regular electricity supply and security challenges.

He however particularly mentioned power outage, bad roads and security threat as major in the identified issues.

He said that even the public primary and secondary schools in the area were not enough for the kind of population.

According to Ibitoye, as a result of the neglect, the community had had no alternative than to depend on self help, to make life meaningful for the residents.

He appealed to owners of uncompleted buildings in the area, as well as existing home owner- members to  pay 50k once and N5, 000 yearly respectively as their part of development fees adding that this was necessary to tackling some of the development challenges affecting the area.

The treasurer of the association, Mr Dele Sanni, formerly the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the association also enjoined the members to rally round the executive in realising the aspirations of the CDA.

He led by example, by donating  10 bags of cement  for the casting of the road projects that had been the major problem of the community.

Also speaking, Olufemi Ajadi  Oguntoyinbo, the Youth Leader of the community bemoaned the fact that for the past eight years, that government had neglected the area.

He particularly mentioned the fact that despite erecting a signboard indicating that it was rehabilitating key roads in the area, the government failed to do anything.

Worse was that after some time, the signposts literally disappeared without a trace.

Oguntoyinbo mentioned roads affected by the dilapidation to include Temidire and Orimerunmu links, adding that it was unfortunate that Ibafo still was still bereft of government presence.

He recalled that some of the signposts had been removed by flood, and that residents sleep with their eyes open anytime it rained on account of fear of flooding.

Other residents who spoke on the matter wondered how a government in office by virtue of people-mandate could neglect such people.

They said the issue of developmental neglect had become a major problem in outskirt communities, praying on the incoming government of Dapo Abiodun to please remember the community.
