‘Time To Relegate’ – Man Utd Fans React To Gareth Southgate Links

The fact that Gareth Southgate has emerged as the front-runner to succeed Erik ten Hag as manager has not pleased Manchester United supporters.

With the Red Devils having a dismal season, Ten Hag’s future at Manchester United is becoming less and less assured. A 4-0 loss to Crystal Palace on Monday marked a new low for United, who now face elimination from the Champions League the following season. Foot Mercato claims that Southgate, the manager of England, is a serious candidate to take Ten Hag’s job, but United supporters are appalled by the revelation.

Man Utd fan @7El_Bicho is clearly not a fan of Southgate taking over, posting on X: “It think we are getting relegated next season.”

Another supporter, @Saucyjeyy04, felt United would be better off not making a change: “If that’s the case I would rather stick with Ten Hag.”

And @JSaturday_ is clear it’s not a good decision, adding: “This is just embarrassing.”

The news on Southgate also didn’t go down well with @Daniel_Naess: “Never want to see Southgate anywhere near this team, cant think of a worse replacement.”

And @sapnon wrote simply: “I guess it will be better to just stop watching Manchester United.”

It is said that Sir Jim Ratcliffe approached Southgate following his conversations with some of the club’s history, and he is confident in his ability to persuade the England manager to make a change. However, since Southgate leads the Three Lions to victory in Germany, any approach will undoubtedly have to wait until after Euro 2024. Southgate’s current contract ends at the end of the year, but if the manager wishes to stay on, it’s thought the Football Association is willing to offer a new one.

Ten Hag’s status is not anticipated to be decided until after the FA Cup final on May 25. The Red Devils still have the chance to end their Premier League season on a high note by defeating Pep Guardiola’s team at Wembley, when they play Newcastle, Brighton, and Arsenal.
