Flattened: Demolition of a Deeper Life Bible Church located at 36 Aina Street, Lawanson, Surulere, Lagos. A Lagos High Court has ordered the Chairman of Surulere Local Government, Hon. Sulaiman Bamidele Yusuf, to appear before it on June 30, 2025, over the demolition

The Deeper Life Bible Church has described as an unfair and targeted action, the demolition of its properties by agencies of the Lagos State government.

It has also described the action as a systematic disruptions of its lawful activities and worship centres.

The church stated these In a statement released by its legal representative, Nojim Tairu & Co. adding that the disruptions were now following a pattern.

It backed the assertion up by citing recent demolition of its properties at various locations:

  1. Chronicle Yaba Church (reportedly demolished by LAMATA),
  2. Olorunishola Church (by LASBCA), and
  3. Lawanson Church (by Surulere Local Government)

The church expressed deep concern over these destruction, what it calls a breach of rights thus:

“Over the past months, our church has faced an unsettling pattern of interference from certain state agencies, resulting in harassment, threats of demolition, and restrictions on our places of worship and community centers “These actions not only infringe on the rights of our congregation but also raise serious concerns about religious freedom, property rights, and due process in Lagos State”, the statement said.

“Deeper Life Bible Church has always abided by the law and promoted peace among all communities.

“These recent developments, however, necessitate urgent attention to prevent further erosion of public trust and religious harmony.”

“We remain committed to our mission of spiritual growth, humanitarian service, and social development. We will not be deterred by these challenges and are prepared to explore all legal avenues to uphold our rights and preserve our sanctuaries.”

On the one hand, it Deeper Life Bible Church called on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and relevant authorities to investigate the incidents and take appropriate action to ensure justice.

It also appealed the public, religious organisations, legal practitioners, and the international faith community to support their call for fairness and protection of religious freedoms.

According to it, it would continue its dedication to peace and lawful conduct while seeking redress for what it termed undue enforcement actions.
