This Federal Government Decision Will Hit RCCG, Winners, Others

It will be like a hit below the belt, but it appears inevitable the action the federal government’s next action concerning rapidly spreading coronavirus.

As a way to checkmate the spread, it had become inevitable to regulate large gatherings of people in one place and churches with large followers will most likely be affected.

Such churches include the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Winners Chapel as well as Christ Apostolic Church just to mention a few.

There is increased anxiety in town, with many people slamming the authorities allegedly for not taking enough proactive measures.

On the heeles of this however, the minister of state for Health, Adeleche Mamora has reportedly said it was important for the government to ban religious gatherings or other gatherings with large numbers of people.

“So the principle of social distance must be respected. This is prevention or is recommended against gathering large numbers of people, starting with the national sports festival which is postponed.

“This also applies to religious events or other events where large numbers of people will be present. Not recommended at this time,” he added.

To ban high-risk flights, he said, “Yes, there will be further direction from the ministry if every situation regarding us is reviewed.

The Eagle investigations show that some ministries on their own, have been taking some proactive measures, including sensitization of their members on how best to stay safe in the face of the threat.

At the Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM) for example, sanitisers have been promptly positioned at strategic entry points and conveniences while words of caution are released from the pulpit sensitising the members on basic hygiene practices.

Presiding bishop of the church, Dr Mike Okonkwo devoted time last Sunday speaking to the congregation on the importance of basic hygiene in addition to leading prayers generally on the welfare of the nation.
