‘The Killing Of This Traditional Ruler Is An Abomination’

The chairman of the Traditional Rulers Council/ Community Policing in Imo State, Eze Emma Okeke, has described as an abomination, the killing of a member of the council.

Eze Okeke spoke in reaction to the killing of the traditional ruler of Atta ancient kingdom in the Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State, Edwin Azike.

The news is rife in the state of kidnappers murdering the Imo monarch, and dumping his body at market square.

He was abducted on Thursday only for his corpse to be found on Friday morning.

“The traditional ruler of Atta ancient kingdom in the Njaba LGA, Eze Edwin Azike, has been murdered. His lifeless body was dumped at the market square and the villagers discovered it this morning. He was kidnapped on Thursday and thereafter, the community was invaded which led to the killing of four persons.”, was how a source who spoke anonymously broke the information to The Punch.

And now, the chairman of Traditional Rulers Council,  Eze Emma Okeke, says the news had saddened other monarchs in the state.

‘The Killing Of This Traditional Ruler Is An Abomination’, he asserts, adding:

“We have got the sad news about the killing of Eze Edwin Azike. This is abominable in Igbo culture. I don’t know why traditional rulers are being hunted like this. We are not politicians, we are only custodians of the culture of our people. We were informed on Thursday when he was kidnapped, only for him to be found dead, this morning.”

The Eagle reports that the Coalition of South East Youth Leaders, COSEYL, had last October 20,  bemoaned at the level of killings in the South East region, saying the people would no longer tolerate it.

COSEYL President, Goodluck Ibem, spoke with newsmen in Owerri, while commenting on the  attack on traditional rulers during their meeting at Njaba local government headquarters in Imo state, that left two monarchs dead instantly and others injured.
