Ten Hag Confirm Anthony Martial Could Be Handed New Man Utd Contract 

Anthony Martial, a struggling striker, is one of four Manchester United players who could receive a new contract, Erik ten Hag confirm.

The Dutch manager disclosed that United is internally debating whether to offer new contracts to Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Hannibal Mejbri, and the under-fire attacker Martial. Although the club has the opportunity to trigger a one-year extension in each of the four players’ contracts, they are all in the penultimate year of their current agreements. Next summer, United may decide to turn Sergio Reguilon’s Tottenham loan into a permanent move.

Speaking to reporters, Ten Hag said: “Absolutely, those (contracts) are in our mindset, we are discussing things and when we have news we will bring it. Also, we have to make a final decision (on Reguilon) but also there is Spurs who are involved in that (conversation)as well.”

When asked if the Red Devils are planning to make new signings in January, the former Ajax coach said: “I don’t think so. A lot will happen in the window but we have to be prepared if there are opportunities, if there are certain circumstances or surprises, we have to be ready to act.”

Martial’s subpar performance against Newcastle United last weekend drew a lot of criticism. Ten Hag did not spare the player either; he was spotted yelling at the striker and left furious on the sidelines during the game. He eventually defended Martial, though, saying the player shouldn’t be held solely responsible for the team’s collapse. If Manchester United decides to initiate contract extensions, it may also be done in order to obtain a transfer fee for every player in the summer as opposed to letting them depart for nothing.

Manchester United bounced back from their devastating setback at St. James’ Park in midweek, defeating Chelsea 2-1. They will now try to go closer to Manchester City, who are now in fourth place, when they play Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday.
