Suspected Fulani herders kill six Tiv villagers in Nasarawa

Unidentified gunmen believed to be Fulani herders invaded Jimin Nyaku in Aloshi chiefdom; and Guidan Ayua in Kadarko area of Keana Local Government, Nasarawa State, and killed about six Tiv villagers.

Our correspondent gathered that the incident, which took place at Jimin Nyaku, occurred at about 6:pm on Saturday evening.

A father and his son were brutally murdered during the attack.


It was learnt that four persons were, on Sunday night, killed at Gidan Ayua, on the outskirts of Kadarko town along the Nasarawa and Benue borders.

In an exclusive with our correspondent, one of the villagers, Mr. Terwase Adagher, who narrowly escaped, said that the gunmen who were said to be on a reprisal mission appeared from a nearby bush and opened fire on their victims, killing four persons immediately.

He said: “We were sitting in our compound at Gidan Ayua yesterday (Sunday) at about 7pm when some herdsmen, armed with sophisticated weapons in their large numbers, suddenly appeared from a nearby bush and started shooting into the air. I escaped by God’s grace, but four of my relations were killed by the attackers”


Reacting to the incident, the President Tiv Youth Organization in Nasarawa State, Peter Ahemba, who confirmed the incident to our correspondent, said that the bodies of the victims have been deposited at the mortuary unit of the Dalhatu Araf Specialist hospital, Lafia.

The Police Public Relation Officer, Nasarawa State Command, DSP Idirisu Kenndy, who confirmed the death of three persons on the phone, said the Command only received a report of three persons that lost their lives in the incident.

He said: “The Command only received reports about three persons killed in the areas. ”


When asked whether there was any arrest in respect of the attacks, he said that no arrest has been made, adding that investigation into the incident is ongoing.
