Splendid: See Jamaican Teen That Broke Usain Bolt’s 22 Yr-Old Record

A Jamaican teen has broken the 22 year old 17400 metres record set by eight time Olympic champion, Usain Bolt.

16-year-old Nickecoy Bramwell did so in grand style at the 51st Carifta Games in Grenada, finishing in 47.26 seconds to beat Usain Bolt’s time of 47.33 seconds scored in 2002, at the 31st installment of the games.

Fans watched in astonishment as Bramwell stunned co-athletes and fans at Kirani James Athletics Stadium in Grenada, to post the new impressive performance.

‘It’s a wonderful feeling to break the record,’ he was later to say, adding: “’Since last summer, I have been eyeing the record, so it’s a great feeling I could come out here and get it.

“I just took my mind off it and focused on the record.”, he said.

Brawmell won the 400m race by 0.7 seconds, in addition to finishing in front of third place by 0.9 seconds, erasing Usain Bolt’s record.

More interesting in this feat over Usain Bolt and others is that at the commencement, he had raised doubts about his fitness

The Eagle reports that the CARIFTA Games was founded by the Caribbean Free Trade Association (CARIFTA).

Competed for are track and field events including sprint races, hurdles, middle distance track events, jumping and throwing events, and relays.

At inception in 1972 till date, it become an attraction for teen athletes, providing the grounds for them to mature and post impressive records.

The edition that witnessed the enthronement of the new record, held from March 30 to April 1.
