Someone May Be In Trouble, As Reps Investigate 14-Year Darkness

Someone may be in trouble over a 14-year darkness in a southwest state that has affected about 17 communities.

This is because the House of Representatives has shown interest in the matter resolving to investigate it. It has also invited relevant officers for questioning.

Cited amongst the communities undergoing the trauma of darkness are ldobilayo, lgbotako, llutitun, lgundan, lkoya, lgbodigu, lrinje and Ayeka.

Similarly, Aturase, Udogun, Ode¬lrele, OdeAjaja, Akotogbo, lyesa, Ujusun, Ormi, have groped in darkness for decades despite huge governmental yearly budget for the infrastructure.

It is feared that someone may be in trouble, because the House has passed a resolution aimed at investigating the matter.

The resolution followed the adoption of a motion by Honourable Odimayo John (APC-Ondo) at the plenary earlier today.

He narrated how the communities have lived without light for years, which has been affecting both their economic and personal lifestyles.

The same challenge of the lack of power, he narrated, had also affected the state’s economic development in the sense that companies are not able to operate efficiently, while many have closed outrightly.

Some of the organisations and industries he mentioned to have been adversely affected by the lack of power supply include NTA Channel 26.  the Oluwa glass Industry and Okitipupa Oil Palm Mill adding that the Benin Electricity Distribution Company. (BEDC) needed to be held responsible for this.

As for the Ondo State University of Science and Technology Okitipupa, the honourable said the absence of electricity was also making it difficult for the institution to operate.

According to him, the communities were now left no option than to rely on personally provided light to operate which he said should not be so.

Adopting the motion, the House mandated the Committee on Power to invite the General Manager/Chief Executive Officer of the BEDC to come and state all they know about the matter.

Given the huge losses and grave discomfort that the outage had cost over these years, it is feared that someone may be in trouble, especially those who may be found culpable.
