Some People Visiting Tinubu Are Standing Trial For Corruption – Falana

Human rights lawyer, Mr Femi Falana (SAN) has expressed concern that some people who are standing trial for corruption are amongst those visiting President Bola Tinubu at Aso Rock.

This, he advised the president should be checkmated as not to give the wrong signal concerning the standing of the current administration on corruptive practices.

Falana who spoke at the 60^th anniversary of the call to bar of Aare Afe Babalola in Ekiti State, also expressed worry that corruption had assumed a “very dangerous dimension”, in the country.

“I’m urging the president to lead an anti-corruption crusade so that the country – the largest concentration of black people on earth, can take its rightful place in the committee of nations.

“Some of those who are going in and out of the villa are standing trial for looting the treasury of this country. So, wrong signals must not be sent to our people and the international community.”

“There’s somebody here who was our president. If you were accused of corruption and your case was before the EFCC or the ICPC, you’ll not be appointed to a position of authority. We must go back to that era.”

Falana however singled out the former administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo, saying it actually fought corruption.

The Eagle reports that the lawyer, had in the first month of the administration said it had been one with challenges.

Speaking during a live programme on Channels Television, Falana, said: however he had been surprised by the speed with which Tinubu went about some of his policies.

“But Nigerians had expected that the regime was not going to carry on the implementation of the removal of the fuel subsidy, but Bola Tinubu took Nigerians by surprise when at the inauguration an announcement was made to the effect that the fuel subsidy was gone forever,”

“The reverberating effect had been felt particularly by the wretched of the people, especially the poor.

“Therefore, the government had been compelled to roll out some palliatives”, the lawyer said.

Particularly noted for being on the side of transparency in governance, it would be understood Falana’s concern that some of the people visiting President Bola Tinubu at Aso Rock are standing trial for corruption.
