Six Year Old Girl Narrates How Police Rescued Her From Kidnappers

Six-year-old daughter of a lecturer at the University of Jos, Joanna Drengkat, has narrated how the police rescued her after being kidnapped by gunmen.

“There were four persons who came to our house. When they shot my father, they asked me to follow them and one of them was dragging me along, because they were moving very fast and we ended up in the bush on top of a hill.

“They told me that they would not release me if my people did not give them money.

“While they were talking, we started hearing gunshots. At that point, the kidnappers abandoned me and ran away, and the police came and rescued me.”

Recall the story of how the gunmen their residence at the Senior Staff Quarter in Jos on Friday, killed her father, Nendi Drengkat, of the Faculty of Education, UNIJOS, and bolted with her.  

Joanna was the cynosure of eyes of pity on the one hand, and also of appreciation to God and the police for her eventual rescue.

She narrated to journalists at the police command headquarters in Jos on Sunday the shocking operation of the gun men.

According to her, they took her to the top of a mountain with the police close on their heels.

When they could not cope with the heat, they abandoned her and fled.

It was the police that picked the girl from the top of the mountain.

Another kidnapped victim, Chiboze Joseph, was also rescued unhurt, while other bandits fled with gunshot injuries.

According to the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Egbuka, one of the kidnappers, identified as Ali Mohammed, was arrested during the rescue operation.

Mohammed is now telling the police all he knows about the operation that left people in shock

Also, an AK-47 rifle with breach number 1984/AP 0240 and 29 rounds of live ammunition were recovered from him.

The commissioner of police assured that the police would go after the rest of the gang, and appealed to members of the public for information that could lead to their apprehension.

Gunmen had on Friday, attacked the University of Jos Staff Quarters where they shot dead Dr Nendi Drengkat before bolting with the daughter.
