Sir Ratcliffe New Front-Runner To Buy Man United With Revised Huge Bid

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has surpassed Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani in the battle to buy Manchester United.

Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim have made repeated approaches to United since the Glazer family opened the door to offers in November. The procedure has ceased after the deadline for final bids. Recently, it was revealed that Ratcliffe had submitted a new offer in an effort to resolve the case.

Ratcliffe’s revised offer has “given him the advantage” over Sheikh Jassim, who has previously highlighted that he is only interested in buying the club outright, according to a recent Bloomberg article. Ratcliffe is reportedly in discussions to purchase a 25% initial investment in the organisation, which would put United’s value at roughly $6.1 billion (£5 billion). The Glazers prefer the sale of a minority interest since they would still hold authority in such a deal.

Manchester United fans have regularly protested against the American owners since the Glazers bought the team in 2005. The Red Devils made significant investments over the summer, but they have struggled on the pitch this year. Manager Erik ten Hag is currently overseeing the club’s worst start to a season in 37 years.

The Glazers are allegedly “closer than ever” to coming to a resolution, but the story also notes that there is “no certainty” that such conversations would end in a settlement, suggesting the saga may carry on for some time.
