Shocking Couple's Death on New Year's Day Stirs Reactions, Police Begin Investigation

The Ogun State Police Commance has commenced an investigation into the death of a couple, Mr Kehinde and Mrs Bukola Fatinoye, at Ibara GRA in Abẹokuta, on New Year’s Day.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abeokuta.

NAN reports that Kehinde and Bukola were killed when suspected arsonists set their house ablaze on Jan. 1.

One of their children and their housekeeper were also alleged to have been kidnapped by those behind the suspected arson.

According to Oyeyemi, the police will do all within their powers to reveal those behind the dastardly act.

NAN gathered that the incident happened shortly after the couple returned from ‘Cross Over Service’ to usher in the new year.

NAN also learned that Kehinde and Bukola were employees of the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.

Meanwhile, mixed reactions have trailed the couple’s demise.

According to @1776_yori, “It’s a sad day in my parents estate today,such an easy going man and his wife. Kids were allegedly tied and thrown into the river. I hope they catch the evil doers.”

While @MasterPeeZ alleged that “Buhari govt hand dey inside”. The user stated “All those who are looking to ‘arrest’ the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, are involved in this case. The “heavily armed assassins” are members of DSS ~ IMO”

@ChurchLoveworld wrote, “So heartbreaking, I hope enemies of New Nigeria won’t say you’re demarketing Nigeria?”

@jchristianalex on the other hand sees the murder as act of revenge. The user stated “This kind of murder has to do with revenge. The level of hate is shown in the way the bodies are handled after they were killed. Burning means the perpetuators intended to destroy evidence. And that means they are perhaps known by the victims. It is a case the NPF are good at.”
