Save Us From Total Eviction From Our Lands -Ondo Communities

Four farming communities in Ondo State are literally on their knees begging to be saved from total extinction by enemies who had already set their farms ablaze.

The four communities are Adewole, Olotin, Apedu, Olondan, Jojo in lgbatoro/Ala/Imafon all in the state capital and are still mourning their lot from the invaders whom many suspect to be Fulani herdsmen.

They have thus taken their cry to the state government, saying they had been farming in the place for decades, and that the authorities should do something to save them.

But then they are not leaving it at that, but have instead vowed to resist anyone behind it.

Reports show the so-called invaders swooped on the community last Sunday in the wee hours of the night, burning houses.

Taken unawares, most of the villagers ran to safety elsewhere allowing the invaders to do according to their designs.

The Head of Apedu Community, Mr Adegoroye Oro has, in reacting, expressed fear and displeasure over the incessant invasions of their farmlands, identifying the culprits as herdsmen.

He lamented that the action had become a day and night occurrence under the pretext of grazing.

As a response to the pleas of the communities however, the state command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC deployed its Agro Rangers Squad to the communities, according to a statement by the State Commandant of the NSCDC, Commandant Phillip Ayuba.

Narrating how last Sunday’s invasion happened, he said:  ” The squad visited the scene of the incident and gathered that suspected herders shot sporadically into the air to scare the people but there were no casualties. ”

“The community was not deserted when we got there and we did not keep vigil there”.
