Roma Defender Ndicka’s Shock Collapse Not Due To Heart Attack

Roma defender Evan Ndicka did not have a heart attack when he passed out during his team’s Serie A match on Sunday against Udinese, a report says.

The Ivory Coast international needed to be stretchered off after the Serie A match was abandoned late in the second half. Ndicka’s chest problems were promptly diagnosed with a CT scan after he was brought to the hospital.

According to Sky Sport in Italy, preliminary testing has revealed that Ndicka did not experience a heart attack as initially thought. He will, however, spend the night in the hospital for additional monitoring as his colleagues Roma players pay him a visit following the suspension of the game.

Roma delivered an update on Ndicka’s condition via their social channels, which reads: “The squad went to visit Ndicka at the hospital. Evan is feeling better and is in good spirits. He will remain in the hospital for further observations. Forza Evan!”

The Udinese vs. Roma match will resume at the 73rd minute, which is when it was stopped due to Ndicka’s collapse. Regulations restrict the last 17 minutes from being played in the first 24 hours following the tragedy, and Roma’s midweek Europa League match against AC Milan will prevent it from happening. When Udinese and Roma can wrap up their encounter will depend largely on the result of that one.

Ndicka might go through additional testing to find out what went wrong with him. Roma manager De Rossi said “it’s all fine” when questioned about the player’s condition outside the hospital, although it is unclear how long he will be out of commission.
