Release President Nicolás Maduro Immediately, Venezuela’s Armed Forces Tell US

Venezuela’s armed forces are not taking matters lightly with the United States of America (USA) against President Nicolás Maduro .

They have called it an abduction, demanding his release by Washington.

They have also urged the international community to defend the country’s sovereignty.

This is even as the European Union (EU) has urged restraint and respect for Venezuela’s sovereignty, in a declaration endorsed by 26 of the EU’s 27 member-countries.

Defence Minister Vladimir Padrino López, flanked by top military officers, in a televised address today, declared Nicolás Maduro as the genuine, “authentic constitutional leader of all Venezuelans.”

López said the leadership of the Bolivarian Forces of Liberation was united in demanding Maduro’s release, accusing Washington of pursuing a “colonialist ambition” against the South American nation.

“We urge the world to turn their eyes to what is happening against Venezuela, against its sovereignty,” he said. “The world needs to be on guard because if it was Venezuela yesterday, it could be anywhere tomorrow.”

The Eagle reports that Maduro was captured by the United States Special Forces in what President Donald Trump described as a “large-scale strike” on Saturday.

Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores are being held outside the Metropolitan Detention Center in New York.

Earlier today, around 200 protesters had gathered there to denounce the US action in Venezuela.

“We’re out here today to say that we’re against war and we’re against this unilateral military action,” one demonstrator told Sky’s US correspondent.
