Release Kanu For National Peace, If He Dies... - CUPP Warns

Ugochinyere Imo, the spokesperson for the Coalition of United Political Parties, has expressed concern about Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, whose health is worsening.

The Eagle reports that Imo warned that if Kanu dies while under the care of the Department of Security Service, the nation could descend into chaos in a press conference at his rural home in Akokwa, Ideato North Local Government Area, on Wednesday.

Imo claimed that Kanu’s ongoing imprisonment by the DSS was unlawful, citing rulings by the state high court in Umuahia and the appeals court in Abuja that called for his release.

In this stead, he advised the president to order the DSS to release Kanu with immediate effect.

He said, “I got off the phone from the lawyer to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, were his deteriorating health condition was brought to my notice. I want to urge Mr President in the interest of peace and security to order the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

“There are several court judgements which have declared his continuous detention illegal. Mr President has the constitutional power through the attorney general to order for the discontinuance of the matter. Kanu should be released then we come to the negotiation table and address those issues that led to the agitation.”

Imo requested that Buhari give the DSS the go-ahead to drop the terrorism allegations against Emefiele.

He claimed that many people see Emefiele’s treatment by the DSS as a witch hunt against the people of the south.

If Emefiele were from the north, the DSS wouldn’t have targeted him, according to Imo.
