Real Madrid have provided an update on Jude Bellingham’s injury and have confirmed he has sprained his ankle, with a three-week lay-off expected.

Bellingham was replaced by Brahim Diaz in the 57th minute of the match against Girona, having already scored twice, after stating that he was unable to play on. Real Madrid has officially acknowledged that he sustained a “high-grade sprain in his left ankle” in a statement.

The English star might miss up to three weeks of practice, according to writer Jose Luis Sanchez, despite their insistence that assessments are “ongoing”.

Bellingham’s injury comes at an inopportune time for Real given they have just stretched their lead at the top of the table to five points over second-placed Girona. The midfielder, who has scored 20 goals this season in all competitions, could miss up to four games: RB Leipzig in the Champions League, and Rayo Vallecano, Sevilla, and Valencia in La Liga.
