Real Madrid Appeal Bellingham Red Card To CAS

Real Madrid are taking Jude Bellingham’s red card, and subsequent suspension, against Valencia to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Real has filed an appeal with CAS after the Spanish Football Federation denied its request to have his two-game ban reduced, according to The Athletic. After a wild closing few minutes against Valencia, Bellingham was sent off; the England midfielder headed home after the ball entered the box and the final whistle blew. The referee then heard him say, “It’s a f*cking goal,” and he was sent off.

Bellingham will be absent from Real Madrid’s matches this weekend against Celta Vigo and Osasuna but the club are aware that any CAS ruling will not come in time for him to play. The club have argued that Bellingham did not say anything offensive, but the RFEF rejected that explanation. CAS may not.

Bellingham has made 31 appearances across all competitions for Real this season, netting 20 goals and dishing out nine assists. He has been in imperious form. In preparation for the European Championships this summer, the 20-year-old is in top form.

For Real’s next two games, Bellingham will have to watch from the sidelines. Madrid in-form midfielder might play Athletic Club again on March 31.
