RE: How Racist Monkey Chants,Abuses Led To The Abandonment Of Fa Match

In the article of the above title, posted on October 20,2019 on this website, it was reported that a FA game between Yeovil and Haringey Borough was abandoned as a result of racist chants from Yeovil fans. It is so sad that racism is still a thing in the present world.

It is even sadder that the beautiful game of football is becoming an habitual avenue for racists to spill out their hate. Another occasion of racism in football came in the Serie A match between Hellas Verona and Brescia on November 3,2019 where Mario Balotelli had to leave the pitch because of racist chants from Verona fans,he had to be convinced by his coach and team mates before he agreed to continue the game,an act that has been applauded all around.

It is no secret that this issue has been occurring for a long time now and it is a good thing that the players are now very vocal about it and teams have decided to leave games if there is any evidence of racism to one player or the other.

We have players like Raheem Sterling of Man City and England becoming very vocal on social media and expressing his displeasure over the racist abuses that he and other black players have been experiencing. As this article points out,the match between England and Bulgaria is a viable example.

Organisations like KICK IT OUT has been very active in their fight to end racism in football and their actions are commendable.As a football fan,I hope the footballing bodies (FIFA and UEFA) take these cases seriously and duly fine clubs and countries that have an history of racist abuse from supporters.

Also the club and country should take serious measures by banning,for life,the people that chant racist abuse to players. In the case of Balotelli,the guilty club was given a one game partial closure by the Italian FA,this punishment is a trifle too light but it is a step in the right direction.

Also, while these punishments might not completely bring to an end racist abuse in football they will, hopefully, reduce it to the barest minimum.
