‘Quarantine Violators May Bag Up To 7 Years In Jail’

It is said that a difficult situation requires a difficult measure to contain and that is what many governments are doing at this critical time.

It is for this reason that Russia’s Lower House of Parliament has given its final approval to legislation to send quarantine violators to prison for up to seven years.

The hard stance was announced Tuesday, and according to the legislature, if a person violating a quarantine measure causes an outbreak, that person could be imprisoned for two years.

On the other hand, a violation that leads to the death of multiple people would be punishable by up to seven years of imprisonment.

The legislation also targeted the dissemination of information.

If such information is deemed incorrect and causes harm to an individual’s health, the person who spread such information could be jailed for three years., according to agency reports.

Earlier last week, Moscow Mayor, Sergei Sobyanin had ordered restaurants, bars, parks and most stores to close temporarily and Muscovites to stay home.

Also, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin followed up by saying that actions taken by Moscow should extend to all regions. The number of COVID cases had risen to 1,000.

President Vladimir Putin gave Russians a week of paid leave while also promising benefits to help companies and individuals through the crisis.

On Friday, however, the Kremlin walked back the decision amid reports that some Russians planned to travel to the country’s vacation spots or visit relatives, taking advantage of reduced domestic air fares offered by the state airline Aeroflot.

Mishustin ordered all Russia’s parks and resorts to shut down, additional reports by Bloomberg showed.
