President Biden Pays Tribute To Late Brazil Icon Pele, Says ‘A Story Of What Is Possible’

Following the icon’s passing on Thursday, the US President, Joe Biden praised Pele’s journey from “poor origins” to “soccer glory.”

Pele, the legendary player for Santos and Brazil, passed away at the age of 82 after a protracted battle with cancer. President Joe Biden has paid tribute to him.

Since Pele’s passing was confirmed on Thursday, the football community has been paying tribute to him, and the US President has also sent a message on social media.

“For a sport that brings the world together like no other, Pele’s rise from humble beginnings to soccer legend is a story of what is possible,” he wrote alongside a picture of the two men together. “Today, Jill and I’s thoughts are with his family and all those who loved him.”

Pele will go down in history as possibly the best player to ever play the game and unquestionably the only person to ever win the World Cup three times, with Brazil in 1958, 1962, and 1970.

The funeral for the football star will last from the evening of January 2, 2023, through the morning of January 3. The 24-hour public funeral for Pele will begin at the stadium in Santos. Pele will then be laid to rest in a private ceremony at the Memorial Necropole Ecumenica after a procession through the streets of Santos.
